Materials and Innovation
At Love Sofie we put great effort in sourcing the best animal free materials that the market has to offer. We live in a very exciting era, where new innovative fabrics and synthetic leathers are being created to meet the demand of sustainable products. Before every collection is made, we source and research for the newest and most interesting materials that the market has to offer. We go through a large selection of suppliers before deciding what materials to use for our shoes. We always look for the best quality, best look and best eco-compatibility. Love Sofie is an animal free brand and as such we do not use leather, skins, fur or feathers in any of our products.
As a sustainable brand we prefer staying away from plastics as much as possible. We never use PVC and our synthetic leathers are always of the best quality. Plant leather is one of the most innovative materials of our time. A material that lowers the carbon footprint of our products without sacrificing style in any way. Our plant leather is made by mixing PU with corn and seed oils. This mixture is laminated together in layers to create something that feels and acts like animal leather. This vegan option doesn’t harm any animals and It’s breathable, strong and water repellent.
We use organic cotton that is grown without any artificial fertilizers, pesticides or genetically modified cotton. A life cycle analysis comparing organic cotton with conventionally grown cotton shows that organic cotton has a 46% reduced global warming potential, 70% less acidification potential, 26% reduced eutrophication potential (soil erosion), 91% reduced blue water consumption and 62% reduced primary energy demand.

We use recycled polyester to reduce our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source. By using recycled polyester we are helping to divert plastic from landfills. It works like this: the plastic is collected and small pieces are then melted into a liquid that is turned into strands of polyester, which is then woven into fabrics. It takes much less energy to make recycled polyester than it does to make virgin polyester. Recycled polyester has a 75% lower carbon footprint than virgin polyester.
WE LOVE TO RECYCLE!
We use post-consumer recycled denim.
Recycling fibers provide environmental benefits: It reduces the need for landfill space (also counts when incinerated). It reduces pressure on virgin materials and non-renewable resources. It usually results in less pollution and energy use than production from new raw materials. The environmental benefit of recycling is that the fibre can principally be reused again and again. This replaces the use of new virgin fibres with each cycle.
